I don’t think I’ve ever seen South so flat and lifeless. They are getting beat up and down the court on almost every possession. It’s not pretty, the South fans are stunned, subdued and sitting on their hands. Not that they have had much to cheer about. Halftime, Madison 50, South 21. Monica Engleman leads Madison with 17; De’Jaune Alexander and Charlicia Harper each have 11. A subdued Bianca Torre paces the Lady Hawks with seven.

South is home team and the Lady Hawks are doing as much as they can to make it seem like a game at Harlingen South, as they throw mini-basketballs to their fans just as they do before every home game.

It’s over, Wagner wins 65-43

The Lady Bulldogs went to a press and cut Wagners’ edge to 15 with 5:30 left in the game, but the run was short-lived. To be honest, Wagner has been comfortably in control of this game since about three-quarters of the way into the first period. You can see why the Lady T-birds are ranked eighth in the state. As time ran down, one of the Wagner fans yelled across the McAllen fans…”you were just overmatched.” That pretty much sums it up as Wagner wins 65-43. It’s a poor reflection as a small group of McAllen fans are yelling at the Wagner fans and accusing the referees of cheating…Why does nobody ever say, thanks to the officials we won?…..

third quarter (McHi vs. Wagner)

Both schools have fair-sized crowds at the UTSA Convocation Center. Although, it might be an easier drive for the Lady Bulldogs’ fans to come up from McAllen. If the Lady T-birds’ fans had to travel on Loop 1604, I feel sorry for them. There might still be a couple of hundred of Wagner supporters still stuck in traffic. Brutal, I tell you, brutal.

In all honest, Wagner wrapped up the game in this period, McAllen didn’t score until there was 3:33 left in the period. Wagner hadn’t exactly been setting it on fire but still led by 20 at 43-23 with 2:45 left.

Wagner post Amber Roberson is a joy to watch, she’s long and she knows how to use her length on both offense and defense. She calls for the ball with confidence and has a nice spin move. She’s blocked some shots and forced some jump balls without even having to jump. End of the third quarter, Wagner is in front 47-28.

Wagner stretches its lead to 35-20 at the half, 6-3 post Amber Roberson has 10 points, eight of which she scored in the first quarter. Guards Jessica Sommers and Sajoyia Griffin each have seven. 6-2 post BreAnna Brock has four, but has blocked a number of shots. Rebecca Valdez leds McHi with six points. Fifteen points isn’t an insurmountable lead, but it’s going to be difficult for McHi to slow down the T-Birds
