Expectations are always high where Port Isabel football is concerned. After all, no discussion of who is the best program in the Valley can even start without the Tarpons being mentioned. And if there is a Valley team that can win a state championship in football, it will more than likely be Port Isabel.
According to coach Monty Stumbaugh, who given a cowboy hat and a duster, wouldn’t look out of place in a western movie, the Tarpons’ goal is to play “December football.”
December football means making it to the third round of the playoffs; the Tarpons didn’t do it last season, but don’t bet against them playing in December this season.

The Killer Bees are celebrating their fifth anniversary in this upcoming season. There’s nothing wrong with celebrating, however, the club’s PR staff is going overboard.
Way overboard as the radio commercials talk about the historic fifth-anniversary. Sorry, there’s no way a fifth anniversary is historic. Especially, the fifth anniversary of a minor league team.
To add insult to injury, the team’s website is promoting an “All-Time Killer Bees Team.”
Once again, five years isn’t enough to create an all-time team.
Come on, celebrate when you have something meaningful to celebrate.
No wonder nobody in the U.S. has a sense of history.
